Fana Mokoena problematises reopening of schools before Parliament

Published on

EFF member of Parliament, Fana Mokoena published a series of tweets on the growing COVID-19 numbers in the Gauteng province, further problematising the government’s decision to reopen schools.

The EFF’s Fana Mokoena took aim at the ruling party’s decision to gradually reopen schools and businesses on Monday, 29 June 2020. Mokoena criticised the decision to reopen various public places, increasing the risk of spreading COVID-19.

His first tweets on the matter were on Sunday, 28 June 2020, warning residents of Soweto, and Johannesburg at large, to take caution as certain areas were at risk of becoming COVID-19 epicentres.

His subsequent tweets, which fell over to the following day, criticised the act of opening schools and businesses before Parliament, suggesting that the lives of MPs were being prioritised over the lives of regular citizens.
