Though it feels like 2024 has just started, universities all over the country are already preparing themselves to welcome thousands of new students for the 2025 academic year.
NWU is one of the country’s best universities – and according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it is among the 800 best universities in the world. NWU has over 54 530 students enrolled across its three campuses.

Applications for undergraduate and distance learning studies at NWU in 2025 officially opened on 2 April 2024, and there are a few key details that you should know before you jump in.
Before you apply
You can apply to study at the NWU in 2025 through the university’s online application portal.
But before you can get to filling in the application forms, you need to register an application profile. This process is free and can be completed through the following steps:
- Step 1: Visit the NWU application portal and click the “NWU Online Application” button
- Step 2: Create your application profile
- Step 3: Once you have registered, you will receive an email with a username and temporary password
- Step 4: Log in to the application portal with these new credentials
- Step 5: Click the “Apply Now” button to start the application process
What you will need to apply
Once you have registered your application profile, you will be able to start filling out all the information that is required to complete your application.
This process can be quite daunting, which is why it is advisable to keep the following in mind before you start:
- You will need a valid, unique and memorable email address to register your application profile and to complete the application process.
- You will need this email address and your password every time to log into the online application portal
- You will need your ID document (not your birth certificate), as well as your most recent grades to complete the application
The closing date for 2025 NWU applications
Undergraduate and distance learning applications at NWU for the 2025 academic will remain open until 31 August 2024.
Though it is important to note that students who want to enrol for special selection courses and residence admission will have to finalize their applications before 30 June 2024.
