Ernst Roets comments on Bheki Cele’s utterances on farm killings

Published on

Ernst Roets is amongst the political figures who have come out against Bheki Cele after his interview with Adriaan Basson, in which he clarified his stance on farm killings.

AfriForum’s Ernst Roets took to Twitter on Friday, 9 October 2020, to add his voice to the criticism of Minister of Police, Bheki Cele. This after the minister was interviewed on his and his department’s stance on farm attacks.

AfriForum is one of the entities that have been actively fighting for justice in farm attack incidents, further calling for the prioritisation of such crimes. Roets and his party’s stance gained traction after the Senekal Magistrate’s Court incident, which Roets described as community members expressing their frustration.

In his response to Cele’s interview, Roets focused on an extract being circulated on social media. Cele suggested, “The motive for farm attacks is often the mistreatment of workers.”

Roets retaliated by writing, “Government’s own Commission of Inquiry into Farm Attacks concluded that only 1.6 percent of farm attacks are motivated by labour-related issues.”
