Hip-hop heavyweight Emtee’s Corner Store music video has reached 1.5 million views on YouTube.
The visuals show the ‘rags to riches’ story of the rapper as he reflects on himself shopping at the corner store and how his current success has allowed him to now shop wherever he pleases. The music video was released in August 2017 and the single was on high rotation on South African radio stations, which lead to the video’s consistent increase in viewership.
Emtee performs a majority of his verses in front of a rural convenience store, showing the contrast between his lyrics and his past life. He then progresses to a Sandton location, where the city skyscrapers are seen. This marks the transition from a small town boy to a successful rapper who is living an above-average standard of life.
