Published on

The 8th Africities Summit officially took off on Tuesday, 20 November 2018, in Marrakech, Morocco, under the theme: ‘Transition to Sustainable Cities and Territories: The Role of Africa’s Local and Regional Authorities’.

The Africities 2018 Exhibition was scheduled to be inaugurated just after the official opening ceremony that Tuesday.

This is now to be followed by several sessions on ‘Campaign Mobilization: African Cities without Children on the Street’,  ‘Design Issues for Local Governance’, and ‘Sustainable Food Systems: An Issue for African Cities and Territories’, amongst other sessions.

Africities is the flagship pan-African event organised by African Cities and Local Governments (CGLUA), which is held every three years in one of Africa’s five regions.

Its aims to address major issues based on the construction of the 2063 Vision for Africa as proposed by the African Union Commission.

The Africities Summit also has two major objectives namely, to define appropriate strategies to improve people’s living conditions at the local level, and to contribute to the integration, peace and unity of Africa from the bottom up.
