The EFFSWA is reportedly still engaged in deadly protest action, and has refuted claims of receiving firearms from any organisation, further accusing the government of trying to shift blame.
On Monday, 5 July 2021, the Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA) issued a statement in response to a news article published by the Times of Swaziland, claiming that the movement is to blame for the unrest in the country. It was also suggested that leaders of the EFF are shooting and killing civilians.
The EFFSWA is being accused by the government of Swaziland of receiving guns from the Economic Freedom Fighters of South Africa (EFFSA). The movement has refuted these claims as completely false. The EFFSWA categorically stated that no firearms have been brought into the country by the EFFSA, or any other organisation, and that all protesters who were killed by soldiers reportedly ordered by the government to shoot innocent citizens, were unarmed.
The movement has emphasised that the only weapon the Swazi have is a commitment to be the last generation to be oppressed by the monarchy. It also claimed that the government of the king wants to shift the blame onto the citizens for its own failures. The EFFSWA stated, “Our people are being killed by soldiers from Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea who are deployed by government to butcher people in cold blood.”
