Veronica Mente is claiming that the financial state of SAA is not due to a lack of funds, but rather, is because the parastatal has become a pot of free money for rescue practitioners.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to Twitter on Tuesday, 16 February 2021, to share the sentiments expressed by its chairperson, Veronica Mente, during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2021 parliamentary debate. Mente focused on discussing the state of parastatals, spearheaded by the African National Congress’ (ANC) Pravin Gordhan.
Most people, similar to Mente, focused on the deplorable state of the parastatals, which seem to have a bleak future. However, Mente specifically focused on the South African Airways (SAA). The airline’s services are still halted, as it awaits another bailout from the state.
Mente suggested that the airline is not in a financial crisis due to a lack of funds, but rather, because of the continued looting of funds that are meant to maintain it and cover the operational costs. Mente also claimed that to date, the parastatal has received over R200 million in bailouts, with minimal results to show for it.

[In Case You Missed It]: NC @veronica_mente says anyone who claims to know the state of SAA is dishonest.
