EFF questions ANC’s intentions for Patrice Motsepe’s nomination as CAF President

Published on

The EFF’s Ringo Madlingozi used the recent national assembly session to question the reasoning behind the ANC’s nomination of Patrice Motsepe for the position of CAF President.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, to post some of the questions asked by its members of Parliament (MP) during the national assembly hybrid plenary session. One question, in particular, was directed to the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.

The question was based on the nomination of billionaire entrepreneur, Patrice Motsepe for the position of President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Motsepe is the owner of the renowned South African soccer club, Mamelodi Sundowns. However, EFF MP, Ringo Madlingozi questioned the intention behind Motsepe’s nomination by the ruling party.

Madlingozi stated, “They have recently appointed someone with no track record to be the national team coach. Have you (Mthethwa) engaged with the leader of SAFA to ascertain if the nomination of Patrice Motsepe for the position of CAF President is for footballing reasons, or for the advancement of political ambition?”
