The EFF is in opposition of the continued lockdown regulations, and has dismissed the notion that it attended the meeting with political parties agreeing to campaign under unreasonable restrictions.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) issued a statement on Sunday, 12 September 2021, opposing the continued lockdown regulations. This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of a move to lockdown adjusted alert level two, stating that it would not be subjected to a locked down elections environment.
The EFF noted that with the elections having been declared for Monday, 1 November 2021, the president’s continued restrictions on political gatherings remain contrary to the fact that the Constitution states that elections are to be held in a free and fair environment. The EFF further pointed out that Ramaphosa allegedly lied to the nation in his address by stating that all political parties had agreed to adhere to a restricted elections environment, noting that it did not participate in what it has referred to as a rubber-stamping meeting with parties who agreed to campaign under lockdown.
