The EFF has released a statement confirming that it has opened a case against Pravin Gordhan for his alleged abuse of authority and attempts to influence judicial appointments.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 14 April 2021, to issue a statement confirming that it has opened a case against Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan. The case was opened by the EFF’s Deputy President, Floyd Shivambu at the Hilbrow Police Station in Johannesburg.
The statement read, “The EFF, through Deputy President Floyd Shivambu, has opened a case against Minister of Public Enterprises Jamnadas Gordhan, for abusing his authority in attempting to influence the Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in the appointment of Dhaya Pillay as a judge.”
According to the statement, Gordhan, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance at the time, “violated the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004; abusing his authority to benefit another.” The statement also noted the case number as 04/04/2021.
