EFF criticises Ramaphosa’s tenure as AU President

Published on

The EFF has issued a statement commenting on Cyril Ramaphosa’s tenure as the AU President, claiming that he is “the worst chairperson South Africa has ever forwarded to the continental body.”

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) released a statement on Saturday, 6 February 2021, to welcome the handover of African Union (AU) responsibilities from outgoing president, Cyril Ramaphosa, to the new AU President, Felix Tshisekedi from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Although the statement functioned to welcome the new president, it went on to detail how the EFF hopes that his tenure will be better than that of Ramaphosa.

The EFF stated, “Mr Ramaphosa will go down in history as the worst chairperson South Africa has ever forwarded to the continental body. In his tenure, the AU has never condemned the conduct of Morocco in refusing to recognise the United Nations resolution on the conflict in Western Sahara nor the continued Israel subjugation of the people of Palestine.

“The silence of the AU on the atrocities conducted by his counterparts in other countries was too loud to be unnoticed. Ramaphosa not only put his business interests above the rest of South Africa, he does the same with his in-laws, the atrocious government in Uganda where his family interest lies.”
