The Computicket website experienced major technical difficulties this morning after Ed Sheeran ticket sales opened to the general public
Ticket sales for Ed Sheeran’s 2019 South African tour opened via Computicket this morning. The ticket sales were limited to the Cape Town show happening on Wednesday, 27 March 2019. Nevertheless, the Computicket website suffered strain from the high volume of users looking to book their tickets. The website crashed soon after sales went live but was restored by mid-morning. Despite the website crash, tickets for the Cape Town show have sold out.
Ticket sales for the Johannesburg shows, happening on Saturday, 23 March and Sunday, 24 March 2019, will open tomorrow. Originally Sheeran was set to play only two shows in South Africa, but thanks to high demand from fans a second Johannesburg date was added to the tour.
This is not the first time the Computicket website has crashed under high pressure. It suffered similar technical difficulties with the sale of U2 concert tickets in 2010, Super 15 semi-finals and Coldplay tickets in 2011, and Lady Gaga tickets in 2012. Many users have expressed their frustration and disappointment over the website’s glitches. Some have even called for international touring artists to avoid using Computicket as their promoter. Computicket have reminded users that tickets are also available at Shoprite and Checkers stores.
