The Global Citizen Festival organisation has partnered with DStv, SABC and MTV International for a global live broadcast of the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert.
The Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert will be held at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, 2 December 2018.
The free-ticketed event will see the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, Sho Madjozi and Cassper Nyovest perform in aid of extreme poverty alleviation.
On Thursday, 18 October, the Global Citizen organisation announced that it will be working in partnership with the SABC, DStv and MTV International to broadcast the concert live to a global audience.
The live broadcast will be transmitted in over 180 countries across six continents. The collective reach of these three broadcast partners will deliver the largest expanse of any television broadcast of a Global Citizen event to date.
In a press release, the SABC confirmed their partnership with the organisation.
“DStv will broadcast the event live to all its customers throughout South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. It will also carry the responsibility to film the event and provide the live broadcast to the SABC and other international broadcast partners who will extend the reach world-wide,” the broadcaster announced.
Yolisa Phahle, CEO for General Entertainment for MultiChoice, said of the announcement, “We’re honoured to be the exclusive pay TV broadcast partner in Southern Africa for this event that celebrates Madiba’s legacy and reminds us all of the importance of giving back to our communities. We look forward to sharing this with our customers on the 2nd of December and giving them access to the musical highlights in the days thereafter. Mandela believed that music unites us and uplifts us – and here at MultiChoice, we believe that too.”
MultiChoice will make the live broadcast available on DStv channel 199 to all its customers across the African continent.
