DSD delivers Special SRD Grant report by Claremont Analytics

The Department of Social Development has launched the Special COVID-19 SRD Grant report, delivering the findings of the Rapid Assessment of the Implementation and Utilisation of the Grant.

On Thursday, 21 September 2021, the Department of Social Development delivered the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant report through the Rapid Assessment of the Implementation of and Utilisation of the R350 Special COVID-19 SRD Grant. In the opening of the report and launch, the SASSA CEO, Busisiwe Memela expressed gratitude for the work that had been done and had resulted.

The Executive Director of Claremont Analytics, Wiseman Magasela, disclosed that food at 93 percent was the most bought item followed by electricity purchases at 20 percent, with the R350 SRD Grant. He went on to further note that there was a shocking bias in those who had applied for the SRD grant, with Black Africans forming 83 percent of those who had applied. He also noted that Claremont Analytics revealed that 70 percent of those who applied lived in households with four or more members.
