DIRCO to engage in sixteenth SA-Russia Session of ITEC

The DIRCO Minister is set to lead and co-chair the SA delegation at the sixteenth SA-Russia session of ITEC, along with the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources for Russian Delegation.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) released a statement on Tuesday, 20 July 2021, on Minister Naledi Pandor leading and co-chairing the South African delegation at the sixteenth South Africa – Russia federation session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ITEC). DIRCO confirmed that the Russian delegation will be led by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Andreyevich Kozlov.

DIRCO stated that ITEC takes place within the context of the Bilateral Agreement that was signed in 1999 and revived in 2002, to give impetus to the political commitment between the two countries, in efforts to broaden and deepen their relations. DIRCO further stated that the scope of cooperation of the SA-Russia ITEC includes trade and investment, mineral resources, energy, transport, science and technology, water resources, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, higher education, information and communication, as well as arts and culture.

DIRCO stated that the South Africa-Russia Business Council was also the vehicle mandated to strengthen business, trade and investment ties between business communities of the two countries. During the meeting, the co-chairs of the ITEC sub-committees on both sides will provide progress feedback on deliberated areas of co-operation.
