DEVELOPING: Mampintsha opens a counter case of assault against Babes Wodumo

Published on

Mandla Maphumulo, better known as Mampintsha, has opened a counter case of assault against girlfriend Bongekile Simelane, also known as Babes Wodumo.

In the early hours of Monday, 4 March 2019, an Instagram live video went viral, where Babes Wodumo was allegedly physically assaulted by her boyfriend and manager Mampintsha. On Monday afternoon, after a country-wide uproar, Babes Wodumo opened a case of assault against Mampintsha. On Tuesday morning, Mampintsha was arrested and later released on R2 000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrate’s court, where he is expected to reappear on 15 May 2019.

He was instructed by the magistrate to avoid any contact with his accuser, Babes Wodumo. He was reportedly suffering from a foot injury in court.

Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo’s lawyer, Pat Magwaza, has confirmed that his client has opened a counter case of assault. Mampintsha claims that he is the real victim of abuse suffered at the hands of Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane. Mampintsha had reportedly handed himself over to police custody at the Westville Police Station in Durban after Babes Wodumo had opened a case of assault against him.

“He was assaulted so he has opened a case of assault against [Bongekile] Simelane.” said Mampintsha’s lawyer, Pat Magwaza.

“At this stage from what I’ve heard from him in consultation, it was before the video. He was then defending himself when the video was made.”

He said his client did not “take this well because it looks like a setup”.

Mampintsha was expected to appear in court this afternoon, 5 March 2019.
