Dead K-pop singer, Jonghyun’s recording label releases his final album

On 23 January, the recording label of late Korean singer, Kim Jong Hyun, or Jonghyun – as his fans knew him, released what it terms the “artist’s last album.” The 11 song album entitled, “Poet | Artist”, was released on iTunes at 03:00 GMT on Tuesday, 23 January.

Since its release, the album’s songs have risen to the top of the iTunes K-pop chart.  One song, “Shinin” has climbed to second place, while another, “Before our Spring” is currently seventh, and “Only One You Need” is ranked ninth.

Adoring fans that have already purchased the album only had praise for Jonghyun’s latest work, with all of them giving it a review of 5 out of 5. One buyer on iTunes wrote, “This is beautiful. Rest In Peace, Jonghyun. We love you ❤”, while another wrote, “ the album is amazing! Jonghyun you deserved it all. You did well.”

Jonghyun was the lead vocalist of the boy band, SHINee, and went solo in 2015. He committed suicide on 18 December 2017, dying of carbon monoxide poisoning after he inhaled toxic fumes from coal briquettes placed in a frying pan at an apartment he rented in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Jonghyun was 27 years old when he died, and his death was linked to depression.
