The DBE is confident that it will have the 2020 matric results ready for release in February, as the department completed the marking ahead of schedule.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 20 January 2021, to express confidence that it will meet the Sunday, 21 February 2021, scheduled release of the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) final year results. The affirmation comes after the DBE hosted a press conference detailing how it managed to complete the marking of the final examination papers ahead of schedule. This was despite the lack of public confidence in the department, due to inflammatory reports on the cases of COVID-19 at marking centres.
Currently, the department is focused on processing the marks and the standardisation process for UMALUSI to the quality of the marks. Thereafter, the DBE will submit a report to UMALUSI on any irregularities picked up. This is set to happen on Friday, 12 February 2021. UMALUSI will have over a week to go over and approve the report. Should the report be approved, the results will be presented on Sunday, 21 February 2021. Additionally, the certificates will be made available on Monday, 22 February 2021.
