DBE counts down to close of comments on revised admission policy

Published on

The DBE has continued its countdown to the closing date for the public to send in comments on the revised admission policy, which is set to close this week.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) took to Twitter on Monday, 8 March 2021, to mark the four-day countdown to the close of comments on the revised admission policy. The DBE is looking to change the admission policy for public schools.

Two of the most contentious changes would affect the testing system and the withholding of learners’ reports due to non-payment of school fees. While the latter is frowned upon already, some schools have it in their policy. However, should the amendments be approved, that would change.

The former speaks to public schools that have admission tests to determine whether a learner is fit for enrolment into the school. The amendment would also do away with learners repeating grades more than once. The suggestion is that the learner need only repeat a grade once and then proceed.
