The DBE has released a statement confirming that school management teams and support staff are expected to return to schools today, following the uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 second wave.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) took to Twitter on Sunday, 24 January 2021, to announce that despite the extended school holidays for learners, school management teams and support staff are expected to return today, 25 January 2021.
The statement confirmed that despite learners needing only to return to school on Monday, 15 February 2021, the return of teaching staff has not changed that much. Following the return of management teams and support staff, educators are set to return on Monday, 1 February 2021. Thereafter, learners are expected back on the aforementioned date.
The statement added, “Educator and/or support staff who fail to report for duty as stipulated without a valid or approved reason subject themselves to disciplinary action being taken against them. All other cases of absenteeism are to be dealt with in terms of the leave provisions as provided for in the Personnel Administrative Measures.”
