The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has held a media briefing to reiterate the closure of schools under Alert Level 4, encouraging learners to comply with protocols.
On Monday, 28 June 2021, Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga held a media briefing. The briefing was to update the country on the implementation of an adjusted Alert Level 4, and how the regulations and restrictions will affect schooling nationwide.
During her media brief in Botshabelo, Free State, the minister reiterated the instructions of the president for the education sector under the current COVID-19 regulations. Motshekga confirmed that schools, both public and private, will be closing from Wednesday, 30 June 2021, and are expected to reopen on Monday, 19 July 2021.
The minister further urged parents to arrange to collect their children by Friday, 2 July 2021. She also encouraged those in matric to continue studying through the WOZA matric campaign. Motshekga pleaded with learners to comply with the regulations during the holidays.
