DA’s first newsletter of 2021 focuses on COVID-19 vaccine
The DA’s John Steenhuisen has published his first newsletter of the year, which focuses on the contentious COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan and the questions surrounding its acquisition.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) took to Twitter on Friday, 22 January 2021, to circulate the first newsletter by its Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen. The newsletter was published on Thursday, 21 January 2021, and can be viewed as a concise account of the revelations surrounding the acquisition of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The statement addressed some of the allegations that the ruling party has been untruthful in its reports on when negotiations on the acquisition of the vaccine commenced. Moreover, the matter of the lack of funds for grants for families affected by the lockdown regulations, and the contentious matter of the suggested tax hike in order to raise funds for the vaccine.
However, Steenhuisen provided three possible resolutions to combat the alleged corruption and looting by the ruling party. He expressed the DA’s commitment to applying pressure on the government to acquire the vaccine. He also affirmed the party’s intentions to acquire a vaccine for the Western Cape, which is its stronghold.
Lastly, the political party is “pursuing legal action to compel government to provide a full, detailed vaccine procurement and distribution plan against which we can hold them accountable, like the mechanism by which they were finally forced to roll out HIV treatment.”
