DA urges Modise to urgently reconvene Parliament

The DA Chief Whip has urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to urgently reconvene Parliament, to allow for representatives to meet and implement viable solutions to the unrest.

Chief Whip of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Natasha Mazzone issued a statement on Wednesday, 14 July 2021, urging the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thandi Modise to reconvene Parliament urgently. Mazzone’s statement speaks to the spreading unrest, looting, and destruction in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng.

Mazzone stated that the whole of South Africa needs to see its public representatives working together to stabilise the situation and quell the destruction of people’s lives and livelihoods. The DA Chief Whip stated that South Africans have witnessed the wave of carnage, and she believes that the government is missing in action.

Mazzone also called out President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Minister of Police, and the Minister of Defense and Military Veterans and State Security, stating that they are out of touch with the situation on the ground. The DA further called for the urgent reconvening of Parliament, so that sectors can meet to find and implement viable solutions.
