DA threatens legal action on COVID-19 vaccine saga

Published on

The DA has reiterated its threat to pursue legal action to force Zweli Mkhize and President Cyril Ramaphosa to share the complete details regarding the vaccine acquisition plan.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) hosted the weekly podcast, The Inside Track with Siviwe Gwarube, on Wednesday, 20 January 2021, to discuss the contentious matter of the COVID-19 vaccine procurement and distribution. While one of the topical matters was the appointment of David Mabuza as the Head of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Vaccine rollout plan, the podcast did occasionally revert back to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize.

Whenever the conversation reverted back to Mkhize and Ramaphosa, the DA members, including Alan Winde and Geordin Hill-Lewis, threatened legal action if the ruling party fails to provide clarity on the vaccine rollout plan. The DA plans to take the ruling party to court to force them to reveal all the details surrounding the vaccine acquisition.

The ruling party’s statements and claims have allegedly been proven as mistruths on several occasions. The latest of the revealed alleged untruths was on the engagements with Pfizer regarding the acquisition of the vaccine.
