The DA has taken aim at Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi by demanding answers on the COVID-19 TERS payouts, which have reportedly not been received by many applicants.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) took to Twitter to seek answers from Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi on Wednesday, 26 August 2020.Theopposition party created a thread highlighting how Nxesi has allegedly mishandled the payout process. The Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) was created in response to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a series of tweets, the DA claimed that many people who applied for the relief fund in April, May and June have still not received their payouts. The party continued to suggest that even those who did receive payments will most probably not receive anything for July and August. The DA further implored the minister to “share with the public the real extent of the problem as uncovered by the Auditor-General, and explain what is being done by specialist forensic auditors to get to the bottom of it.”
