DA objects to Madzivhandila’s nomination as NLC Chairperson

Published on

The DA has expressed its objection to Dr Muthuhadini Madzivhandila’s nomination as NLC Chairperson, due to a suggested conflict of interest, amongst other factors.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Mat Cuthbert took to Twitter on Tuesday, 4 May 2021, to detail the party’s objection to the possible appointment of Dr Muthuhadini Madzivhandila as the Chairperson of the National Lotteries Commission (NLC). The statement also alleged that there have been attempts to silence the party and the concerns it previously raised.

The statement read, “Dr Madzivhandila was the director of Enterprise SA from November 2003 until it was liquidated in 2006.” Moreover, “During the 2006 financial year, at the time that Dr Madzivhandila was the Director of Enterprise SA, Enterprise SA was allocated a grant by the National Lotteries Commission.”

The leading opposition party further suggested that the attempts to silence it are a move to forge ahead with the contentious appointment. The statement also alluded to the topical issue of cadre deployment, which it is actively working towards ending.
