The Ministry of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation has called a DA member of Parliament to order, for reportedly wrongfully using the name of Minister Sisulu to gain relevance.
Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu issued a press release on Friday, 25 June 2021, in response to a Democratic Alliance (DA) member of Parliament (MP), calling him to familiarise himself with parliamentary guidelines. DA Member, Mat Cuthbert, was called ‘uninformed’ by the department, after he is believed to have misrepresented a parliamentary reply from Minister Sisulu.
In replying to the question directed to the minister on the Alliance Extension 9 Housing Project, the minister chose not to disclose details of the affected contractors, as it could have been construed or used against them. The ministry called it absurd and embarrassing that Cuthbert misled the nation in his statement, stating that none of the declined applicants were afforded the chance to rectify their mistakes.
The ministry has rejected any insinuation that Sisulu has disregard for parliamentary accountability, and noted that it understands that Cuthbert is a newcomer to Parliament. The department further claimed that in his desperate attempt to make himself relevant, he wrongfully used the name of Minister Lindiwe Sisulu.
