The DA has released a video of John Steenhuisen clarifying its stance on rural safety and farm attacks, due to suggestions that it only affects White farmers.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) took to Twitter on Thursday, 12 November 2020, to share a video clarifying its stance on farm attacks and rural safety. The post is an extract from the #MeetJohn virtual town hall meeting, which was John Steenhuisen’s official introduction to the DA’s constituency as the permanent Federal Leader.
In addressing the misconceptions, the DA stated, “There’s a notion out there that rural safety only affects White farmers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Crime doesn’t know a colour, class or race. We’ll partner with any organisation truly committed to addressing rural safety.”
The video comes as news of the party’s dwindling support at the recent by-elections has become public discourse. Previously, the leading opposition party often referred to the supposed phenomenon as farm attacks, however, in the video shared, Steenhuisen championed the use of a Rural Safety Plan, specifically the DA’s.
