The DA has released a statement calling for the total disbandment of the SSA, following the revelations from the past three days of testimonies about the agency.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 27 January 2021, to call for the disbandment of the State Security Agency (SSA). The call for the disbandment of the SSA comes as the State Capture Commission has been focused on hearing evidence on the alleged corruption within the agency.
The testimony by Dr Sydney Mufamadi suggested that the agency, during former president, Jacob Zuma’s tenure, was used as his personal security and intelligence team. The other testimonials also suggested that the agency had become a place of questionable dealings.
The leading opposition party is now calling for the total disbandment of the SSA, in favour of a new and more transparent body that will take over from the SSA. Moreover, the DA’s Dianne Kohler-Barnard has suggested that those who wish to work for the new entity must undergo polygraph tests, to verify that they did not illegally profit from the current SSA.
