DA blames ANC’s alleged mismanagement for possible collapse of 107 municipalities

Published on

The DA has identified the ANC’s alleged financial mismanagement, political instability and cadre deployment as having brought 107 local municipalities to the brink of collapse, following index findings.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Shadow Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Cilliers Brink issued a statement on Monday, 18 October 2021, stating that the African National Congress (ANC) has collapsed 107 municipalities, and that only the DA can stop the carnage. Brink made note of the findings by the Out of Order Index, which indicated that an additional 43 municipalities were on the brink of collapse.

He further stated that this was indicative, once again, of the ANC’s alleged mismanagement that had completely collapsed local government, according to him. The Shadow Minister also highlighted that the ANC’s years of alleged financial mismanagement, political instability and cadre deployment has rendered local governments completely ineffective, noting that in August 2021, CoGTA released a report confirming that 64 municipalities across the country were declared dysfunctional. Moreover, the additional 43 identified by the Out of Order Index has brought the total tally to 107 municipalities.
