Cyril Ramaphosa speculated to announce move to Level 1 in national address
President Cyril Ramaphosa will be addressing the nation this evening regarding the current state of the nationwide lockdown, with some anticipating a move to Level 1.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will be addressing the nation tonight, 16 September 2020, at 19:00, as announced on Twitter. According to the tweet, the national address will be to discuss the developments in South Africa’s risk-adjusted response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which currently sees the country operating under Level 2 of the nationwide lockdown.
Twitter users have shared their suspicions about the president’s possible announcement of a move to Level 1 of the lockdown, merely one month after the move to Level 2 on Tuesday, 18 September 2020. Level 1 will allow for the further easing of restrictions, with a possible retraction of the curfew. Currently, citizens are required to be within the confinements of their homes by 22:00.
One Twitter user speculated, “President Cyril Ramaphosa to announce Level 1. Finally, the country is about to be open and back to normal.” Some people have expressed their concerns about the relaxation of restrictions, as they believe that the virus still has the potential to spread. One user tweeted, “If we’re going to Level 1, can you at least leave tertiary students in Level 2? We are still coping with online learning.”
