COSATU calls for re-establishment of Occupational Health and Safety Committees

Published on

COSATU took to Twitter to call for the re-establishment of Occupational Health and Safety Committees, amid the current pandemic, in a move to create a safe work environment for members.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) took to Twitter on Thursday, 19 November 2020, to call for the re-establishment of Occupational Health and Safety Committees. This is in an effort to instate a body that workers can refer to and address their concerns and complaints about their employers’ handling of the pandemic.

Despite the nearing festive season, some companies have started encouraging workers to return to the office working space, following months of working remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers retuning to offices poses a risk of an increase in COVID-19 infections. Therefore, the proposed re-establishment of Occupational Health and Safety Committees attempts to mitigate that risk.

COSATU has been gradually revealing some of the outcomes from its recent collective bargaining conference, however, it has yet to fully present some of its plans.
