Competition Commission launches multidisciplinary research grant programme to enhance competition law enforcement

Published on

The Competition Commission has announced the launch of a multidisciplinary research grant programme for high quality research proposals, to promote research informing and enhancing competition law enforcement in SA.

The Competition Commission issued a statement on Wednesday, 20 October 2021, announcing that it has launched a multidisciplinary research grant programme for high quality research proposals during the fifteenth Annual Competition Law, Economics and Policy Conference. The commission informed that the programme will be aimed at promoting multidisciplinary research at South African tertiary institutions, that will inform and enhance competition law enforcement in the country.

It also put forth that the launch has officially opened an invitation for high quality and substantive multidisciplinary research proposals relevant to competition law, that may contribute to informing and improving enforcement in South Africa. The initiative will be responsive to the broad mandate of the Competition Act as amended, and to new challenges to competition law enforcement that not only demand a stronger research community to debate and inform, but also demands a multidisciplinary approach.
