The Compensation Fund has confirmed that employees who contract COVID-19 at the workplace can now submit a claim, which was previously a contentious matter.
The Compensation Fund took to Twitter on Sunday, 3 January 2021, to circulate the amended Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (1993) Service Book. The amendment comes at the start of the new working year, as the global pandemic continues to affect the lives of everyone in the world.
The fund has confirmed that employees can now submit a claim if they are unable to work after contracting COVID-19 in the workplace. The tweet read, “Compensation Fund is responsible for compensation for occupational injuries, including occupationally acquired COVID-19, please see booklet for all other services offered by the fund.
Besides detailing the aforementioned, there is also clarity on matters such as the Compensation for Injury and Disease Act, the relationship between the employer and the fund, and how to claim for various reasons.
