City of Tshwane issues update on progress in tackling criminality

The City of Tshwane has confirmed that 130 suspects appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court, and that law enforcement and the SANDF have successfully recouped some stolen goods

The City of Tshwane, on Friday, 16 July 2021, confirmed that over 100 suspects have appeared in court, as law enforcement teams have recouped stolen goods in Mamelodi. The city also extended its condolences to the families of all who had lost their lives during this period.

Tshwane confirmed that it was able to contain the small flare ups of criminality and looting with its law enforcement teams, together with communities and various stakeholders. The Executive Mayor, Randall Williams confirmed that following some incidences in Mamelodi on Monday, 12 July 2021, numerous suspects were identified and 130 had appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court.

The city also stated that the Tshwane law enforcement teams, together with South African National Defence Force (SANDF), remain deployed in various parts to maintain law and order to ensure the safety of the Tshwane residents. Williams also stated that the law enforcement launched an intelligence-driven operation to recoup stolen goods.
