City of eThekwini will not issue permits during lockdown period to comply with lockdown regulations

The City of eThekwini has taken to social media to clarify that it will not issue any permits to agencies during the lockdown period, as part of the lockdown regulations.

On Thursday, 26 March 2020, the City of eThekwini released a statement asserting that it will not be issuing any permits during the national 21-day lockdown. The statement comes after the municipality was inundated with requests from agencies and private citizens to sign off on their request forms.

In the statement, the City revealed that agencies or members of the public who want to receive authorisation forms should address the matter with their respective Chief Executive Officers (CEO). The CEO is said to have already received a permit if the company’s operations falls under the essential service provider category, per the government’s guidelines.

The municipality further stipulated that it can only offer permits to those who work for municipal departments and services. These are municipal services and departments who were noted in Minister of Trade and Industry, Ebrahim Patel’s address on Thursday, 26 March 2020.

The City has shared the statement twice on its social media pages already, receiving positive feedback for its decisive actions during the outbreak and ahead of the national lockdown.
