Soldiers and officers of the Chadian National Army (ANT) whose salaries have been levied since June 2017 will have their full pay back as of January next year, according to a decree made public on Wednesday, 5 December 2018.
“On the proposal of the Minister of National Defence, Decree No. 864 of June 30, 2017 on the settlement of military, armed and security forces’ salaries is repealed,” the new decree stated.
Under the decree, from 1 January 2019, soldiers who had lost between 50 and 80 per cent of their emoluments will receive their salaries in full.
The levies on the salaries of civil servants and military personnel were part of austerity measures to tackle the Chadian government’s cash crisis.
