Cele dismisses suggestions of reneging on promises made to Ntumba family

Published on

Bheki Cele has denied suggestions that he has reneged on the promises of justice made to the Ntumba family, following the murder of Mthokozisi Ntumba during the student protest.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) took to Twitter on Monday, 15 March 2021, to circulate a statement on behalf of Police Minister, Bheki Cele. Cele addressed the false narrative that is being circulated of him supposedly reneging on the promises made to the family of Mthokozisi Ntumba

Ntumba was the innocent civilian who was allegedly slain by the SAPS during the protest action in Braamfontein last week. Following his passing, Cele visited his family and confirmed that an investigation into the murder has been launched. Considering that there was footage and images circulated of the initial declaration, the lack of updates from the SAPS has raised concerns.

In denying the suggestions, the statement read, “It is an absolutely heartless move by any political party (The Economic Freedom Fighters) or its leadership (Julius Malema) to lie to its followers and to the nation by using the pain of a family who suffered such a devastating loss of a father, a husband and a breadwinner, to push a political agenda in a desperate attempt to gain political mileage.”
