Cape Town to host Comic Con in 2020

Comic Con Africa has confirmed that Cape Town will host its own event in May 2020. Since its inception, the event has only been held in Johannesburg.

Capetonians can start saving to attend their very own Comic Con convention, scheduled for 1 to 3 May 2020 at the Cape Town Stadium. In a press statement released on Monday, 11 March 2019, Reed Exhibitions Africa and ReedPOP confirmed that the Mother City would host their own Comic Con event.

This event, based on the popular comic book convention, will stray a little from traditional Comic Con events. Because Cape Town is known for its film and television industry, this version of the convention will still be focused on comics, but with a twist of films and series.

The organisers of the convention will be partnering with the Cape Town International Animation Festival to make it a success.

Following the exciting news, Reed exhibitions Africa’s managing director Carol Weaving said, “With the unprecedented success of the 2018 Comic Con Africa, it is the natural next step to bring this format to the city of Cape Town.

While the style of this Comic Con will be slightly different to Comic Con Africa, we still expect the same level of entertainment focusing on our key pillars which include film, series, animation, cosplay, comic books and gaming. We are thrilled to be announcing the dates when we will be bringing the Comic Con magic to another South African city.”

Johannesburg fans can look forward to the second annual Comic Con Africa to be held between 21 and 24 September 2019 at the Gallagher Convention Centre.
