The Board of Cambridge Analytica has suspended CEO Alexander Nix with immediate effect, pending a full, independent investigation.
On Tuesday, 20 March, the Board of Cambridge Analytica (CA) announced it has suspended CEO Alexander Nix “with immediate effect, pending a full, independent investigation.”
The Board’s decision follows Nix’s recent comments secretly recorded by Channel 4, that, the Board claims, “do not represent the values or operations of the firm and his suspension reflects the seriousness with which we view this violation.”
While an independent investigation is launched, Dr. Alexander Tayler will replace Nix as acting CEO, to review those comments and allegations.
The investigation will be led by Julian Malins QC, and the Board commits to share publicly the findings of it, in due course.
Alexander Nix was secretly recorded in an undercover investigation by Channel 4 News, claiming that CA ran key parts of Donald Trump’s digital campaign during the 2016 US election.
“We did all the research, all the data, all the analytics, all the targeting, we ran all the digital campaign, the television campaign and our data informed all the strategy,” Nix said.
The company was also accused of illegally using private Facebook user data to swing election campaigns. Following the revelations, Facebook suspended CA from its platform on Friday night.
