Botswana to strengthen ties with Germany

Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is due in Botswana on a two-day state visit at the invitation of his counterpart, President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi.

Steinmeier, who will be in Botswana from 21 November 2018 to 22 November 2018 will hold official talks with Masisi, focusing on the state of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said as part of his programme, President Steinmeier will also visit the Construction Industry Trust Fund and engage with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat.

President Steinmeier will be accompanied by a business delegation, which will engage with the local business community to explore trade and investment opportunities in Botswana.

Botswana and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1966. Over the years, the two countries have collaborated in various fields of development, such as education, environment, tourism, water, energy, and trade and investment.

Botswana established a resident diplomatic mission in Berlin in September 2013.
