Botswana is the only African country chosen to pilot world football governing body, FIFA’s women’s football strategy.
This was revealed by Botswana Football Association National Executive Committee women’s football representative Tsoseletso Magang when addressing women’s football annual general assembly in the capital Gaborone on Tuesday, 21 May 2019.
She explained that the Southern African nation was selected by FIFA to develop, implement and ensure that milestones are achieved. Magang added that Botswana has also been given the mandate to ensure that the strategy becomes a success and more focus would be on the person to drive and execute the strategy.
“Botswana will work closely with FIFA to monitor progress on the development and implementation of the strategy. Therefore, it is important for us that as we start we must set a very clear plan and path that will guide us as women football Botswana,” she said.
After FIFA developed its new strategy for woman’s football, Botswana was chosen as a country that can be assisted to constructively develop and help make a successful pilot project on building a strategy and structure.
Recently, the FIFA delegation held meetings with the woman’s committee, supporting structures at the Football Association and hold a workshop with regional representatives to develop a strategy.
The delegation will visit clubs in Gaborone as part of their fact finding to help develop a comprehensive structure and strategy.
