On Friday, 26 January the South African Department of Labour cancelled the registration of the Border Industrial Employers’ Association as an employers’ organisation. The association was officially deregistered on 11 January 2018.
The East-London based organisation failed to comply with sections 98 (accounting records and auditing), 99 (duty to keep records) and 100 (duty to provide information to the registrar) of the Labour Relations Act of 1995. The organisation, according to an earlier notice by the Department, also “ceased to function in terms of its constitution.”
On 3 November 2017, the association and the public were given a period of two months to respond to a notice indicating that it’s registration would be cancelled.
