BLSA’s Busi Mavuso suggests Economic Recovery Plan should be practical

Published on

BLSA’s Busi Mavuso has expressed her thoughts on the Economic Recovery Plan, advising that it should be a practical plan of action that can be immediately implemented.

Business Leadership South Africa’s (BLSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Busi Mavuso released a statement today, 15 October 2020, addressing the upcoming Economic Recovery Plan address by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The address is speculated to take place later today, however, that is yet to be confirmed by the presidency.

Mavuso has already noted what she wants to hear from the address. Overall, her sentiments are that the plan should be practical and immediately implementable by the various stakeholders involved. She suggested that a plan that sounds “like something the market wants to hear” but is not immediately implementable will affect the morale and outlook of surviving the downturn.

The statement also highlighted two factors that might cast a shadow on the plan; South African Airways (SAA) and Eskom. Both troubled parastatals are still under a dark cloud, therefore, Mavuso suggested that Ramaphosa sticking out his neck to attempt to save these parastatals would not paint a positive outlook on reviving the economy, and it would most likely deter possible investments.
