BLSA stresses need to revive economic activity

Published on

BLSA has released the latest weekly thought piece by CEO, Busi Mavuso, who has stressed the need to revive economic activity and encourage business confidence in the country.

Business Leadership South Africa’s (BLSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Busi Mavuso shared her weekly newsletter on Monday, 16 November 2020, which highlighted the importance of encouraging business confidence. This comes after the announcement of the further reopening of borders for tourism purposes, which Mavuso admitted would be beneficial to the economy.

According to Mavuso, “Enabling economic activity is just the start, however. What we really need is confidence so that businesses can use the gap that they have to invest and expand. We are going to have to adapt to the permanent changes that the crisis has delivered.”

She also discussed the different avenues that the state could use to encourage confidence in its governance. One immediate example that Mavuso referenced was the upcoming SA Investment Conference, which is scheduled to commence later this week. Mavuso emphasised how important it is for the president to use the opportunity to showcase that South Africa is determined to improve the state of the economy through collaborative efforts.
