Minister of Police, Bheki Cele has addressed some of the topical matters relating to his department, with farm attacks being amongst the pertinent issues he weighed in on.
Minister of Police, Bheki Cele was interviewed by Andrew Basson on Friday, 9 October 2020, to discuss pertinent issues related to his department. Throughout the hour-long interview, Cele attempted to highlight that farm attacks and killings are not necessarily racially charged, but also emphasised that avoiding the matter would be nonsensical.
One of the most poignant matters addressed was the mounting calls for such incidents to be recognised as priority crimes. Twenty-eight minutes into the interview, Cele clarified that the department does not have an itemised list of priority crimes, claiming that no one crime is more severe or important than another.
Cele clarified that there are crimes in South Africa that are prioritised because of their urgency and severity, with farm attacks being amongst those.
