Bantu Holomisa has written to the Engcobo Local Municipality Mayor, on behalf of the Hala Community Development Forum, requesting an update on the Hala Smart City Project.
On Wednesday, 7 July 2021, UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa wrote to the Engcobo Local Municipality Mayor, Siyabulela Zangqa, requesting information on the Hala Smart City Project. Holomisa would like to know where the project currently stands and for the mayor to urgently meet with representatives of the Hala Community Development Forum, to update the community on the prospects of the project in question.
Holomisa stated that the forum recently approached the UDM and appealed for the party to intervene on their behalf, in the matter of the proposed project within the Engcobo Local Municipality. Holomisa noted that massive undertakings, such as job creation and poverty alleviation, were promised to the people residing in the area, but have unfortunately not been met.
The leader stated that he believes that it was worse that the municipality’s management, including the office of the mayor, was not communicating with residents, despite their attempts to reach out. Holomisa also informed the mayor that according to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission’s website, the Hala Community Development Consortium is to be deregistered, as it last paid its dues in 2017. Holomisa stated that he is awaiting a response.
