Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has called up two new players as late replacements for the injured duo of Thapelo Morena and Vincent Pule.
Cape Town City defender Thamsanqa Mkhize has been called up as cover for the injured Mamelodi Sundowns defender-cum-midfielder Morena, while Orlando Pirates attacker Thembinkosi Lorch replaces his teammate Vincent Pule.
Morena suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-match warm-up just before his side’s Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits last weekend in Pretoria.
Meanwhile, Pirates’ Pule suffered his injury last week in training and missed the team’s last weekend 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in Durban.
Baxter had revealed to journalists that both players were to undergo scan to reveal the extent of their injuries with both players now confirmed to be ruled out.
“Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has called up CT City defender Thamsanqa Mkhize and Thembinkosi Lorch (Orlando Pirates). They replace the injured duo of Thapelo Morena (Mamelodi Sundowns) & Vincent Pule (Orlando Pirates) who were released yesterday,” The South African Football Association tweeted.
City also delightfully announced its captain’s call-up.
“Thamsanqa Mkhize has been called up to the SA national team to face the Seychelles this weekend! All of the best Khabazela!” tweeted the club.
Bafana Bafana welcome Seychelles to the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 13 October 2018, before the return-leg on Tuesday, 16 October 2018.
Political Analysis South Africa will cover both games’ previews and results.
