Babes Wodumo went live on Instagram, documenting an alleged attack by her long-time boyfriend and manager, Mampintsha, sparking social media outrage as this is reportedly not the first attack.
In an Instagram live video that has since been deleted, an alleged attack could be seen taking place between singer-songwriters, business partners and romantic partners Mampintsha, real name Mandla Maphumulo, and Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane.
The video, posted in the early hours of the morning of Monday, 4 March 2019, has sparked outrage on social media, with hashtags #Mampintsha and #MampintshaIsTrash trending since the video went viral. Celebrities such as Boity, DJ Zinhle and Sizwe Dhlomo have spoken out, demanding that Mampintsha faces the full might of the law. DJ Zinhle tweeted “Mampintsha needs to be stopped. I hope they make an example out of him, so every man knows that hitting a woman is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. My heart breaks for Babes.”
This is not the first time that Mampintsha has allegedly physically abused Babes Wodumo. In May 2018, Babes Wodumo was a guest on Metro FM’s The Drive with Moflava and Masechaba Ndlovu, where Masechaba addressed the alleged abuse on live radio. While Babes Wodumo neither confirmed nor denied the allegations, she could be seen in an Instagram video crying while the interview was in session. Social media users have called on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to intervene.
