The ATM took to Twitter to reshare a statement that was initially released in January 2021, describing the state’s vaccination procurement and rollout plan as premature.
Leader of the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Vuyolwethu Zungula took to Twitter on Tuesday, 13 April 2021, to circulate a statement that was initially released in January 2021. In the statement, the ATM addressed the Speaker of Parliament, Thandi Modise in terms of rule 62, with the aim of having Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize appear before Parliament to detail the then yet-to-be-executed vaccination rollout plan.
The application to have Mkhize appear before Parliament was based on the ATM’s belief that the proposed vaccination rollout plan was premature and not fully thought out. Moreover, the political party had highlighted its suspicions on the vaccines that were acquired by the state. In line with the party’s tenets, it questioned the sources of the vaccine.
In resharing the statement, Zungula highlighted that he had foreshadowed the current situation. To date, the country has acquired two vaccines, which have both been subsequently questioned.
